Overview
LumaFusion is a multitrack video editor from Luma Touch, originally built for iPad and iPhone and now also on Apple silicon Macs, Android and ChromeOS. The base app is a one-time purchase; extras such as Multicam Studio, Speed Ramping & Enhanced Keyframing, FCPXML Export and the Storyblocks stock library are sold as $19.99 add-ons or bundled in the Creator Pass subscription. It is aimed at journalists, YouTubers and filmmakers who want a desktop-style timeline on a tablet.
LumaFusion Not Working? Common Errors & Fixes
Step-by-step fixes for the errors users hit most.
LumaFusion Export Failed or Crashes During Export
LumaFusion export errors are usually caused by low storage, problem media or speed-adjusted clips. Restart, free space, run Optimize and Consolidate, and if the project has speed changes turn off Use Audio Pre-rendering in Help and Settings.
LumaFusion 'There Was an Error Reading Media in Your Project'
This export error means LumaFusion can't decode one of your clips during export. Switching the export codec (for example H.264 to H.265) usually gets past it; otherwise Optimize and Consolidate or transcode the problem clip.
LumaFusion Missing Media Error
LumaFusion shows missing media when it can't reach a clip's source, usually an external drive, cloud service or cached file that was cleaned up. Reconnect the source or re-import the file, then Optimize and Consolidate so the media is stored with the project.
LumaFusion Projects Disappeared
If you didn't delete the app, missing LumaFusion projects are usually hidden by a nearly full device: free storage, restart, then import a project backup. If you deleted and reinstalled the app, projects can only come back from a device backup.
LumaFusion Keeps Crashing
Most LumaFusion crashes are fixed by updating the app (several crash fixes shipped in 2026), restarting the device, freeing storage and removing heavy third-party audio plug-ins. Don't delete the app: that erases your projects.
LumaFusion Playback Lagging or Choppy
Choppy LumaFusion playback usually comes from footage iOS struggles to decode (4K, GoPro, DJI) or from editing off an external drive. Optimize and Consolidate the project, transcode problem clips, and keep media on internal storage.
LumaFusion Audio Missing After Export
A known LumaFusion bug drops audio from exports when the Sound Isolation preset's Sound To Isolate setting is High Quality Voice. Change it to Voice and export again.
LumaFusion Can't Import Video (Unsupported Format)
LumaFusion on iOS can't import WMV, AVI, MKV, FLV, AV1, DivX, VP9, ProRes RAW or interlaced video. Convert the file to H.264 MP4 with HandBrake using Luma Touch's recommended settings.
LumaFusion Not Enough Storage Space
LumaFusion copies imported media into its own storage, so it grows fast. Back up old projects as Project Packages, delete unused imported clips, clean cached media in Help and Settings, then restart so iOS releases 'System Data'.
LumaFusion Crashes When Minimized on Mac
On macOS 27, LumaFusion can crash when minimized or when you switch away from it in full screen. Luma Touch is working with Apple; until then hide it with Cmd+H and keep it windowed.
LumaFusion Restore Purchases Not Working
'No purchases were restored' means either the feature is already unlocked or you never bought it: add-ons like Multicam Studio aren't part of the base app. The old 'Cannot verify LumaFusion purchase' export error is fixed by updating the app and iOS.
LumaFusion Google Drive Not Working
Luma Touch removed Google Drive as a built-in source in LumaFusion. On iPad and iPhone, install the Google Drive app and import/export through Files or the share sheet instead.
LumaFusion Not Compatible With Chromebook or Android Device
LumaFusion for Android/ChromeOS needs at least 3 GB of RAM and Android 10 or newer. If your Chromebook runs Android 9 or lower, it won't install unless a newer ChromeOS channel brings Android 10+.
LumaFusion iPad Project Won't Open on Android
iOS projects using Multicam Studio, Adjustment Clips, more than 6 video/audio tracks, AUv3 plug-ins or certain transitions can't be opened in LumaFusion for Android/ChromeOS. Remove those features on iPad before moving the project.
Signals & Issues
Patterns extracted from real user feedback — not raw reviews.
Projects can vanish from the Project Manager when the device is almost out of storage, and deleting and reinstalling the app wipes every project for good unless you have a device backup or a LumaFusion project package. Some users also lost videos after moving to a new iPad.
Export errors and crashes are the most common LumaFusion support topic, and Luma Touch keeps a dedicated troubleshooting article for them. Reviewers describe renders failing on a 10-minute project with no clear reason; official fixes cover storage, Optimize and Consolidate, speed-ramp audio settings and switching the export codec. Release 5.5.3 (Oct 2026) again fixed export issues with speed-adjusted clips.
Users report clips flagged as missing media, sometimes for files that play fine elsewhere, and errors that then block export. Luma Touch says projects show missing media when the original source (an external drive or online service) is unavailable, including after cleaning up cached media.
Crash reports cluster around launching or opening big projects, importing from the photo library, trimming clips, reversing short clips and heavy third-party audio plug-ins. Recent release notes list fixed crashes (trimming and library preview in 5.5.1, reversing clips in 5.5.2) plus a known crash with underlined title text.
Luma Touch lists a known issue where audio disappears after export when the Sound Isolation preset is set to High Quality Voice. Reviewers also report exported audio clipping when it sounds fine in the editor, and music starting from a different point on each playback.
Long or high-resolution timelines slow down, preview can go black on 4K, and one 2025 reviewer said an update left previews freezing after about 3 seconds. Luma Touch says iOS struggles to decode some GoPro and DJI footage and recommends Optimize and Consolidate or transcoding.
Editing straight from external drives is reported as too slow to use (WD Passport) or unstable, with a USB SSD repeatedly dropping during 4K edits. The common workaround is copying a project's media to internal storage, editing, then archiving it back to the drive.
LumaFusion copies imported media into its own storage, so it grows large over time, and iOS often moves freed space into 'System Data' instead of releasing it until a restart. Low storage is behind several other issues: failed exports, missing projects and 'not enough space' warnings.
The app is $29.99, but Multicam Studio, Speed Ramping & Keyframing, FCPXML Export and the PaintX plug-in are each $19.99 extra, and Storyblocks stock media is subscription-only. Reviewers complain about paying again for features like FCPXML they expected in a pro editor.
In late 2024 the Storyblocks subscription was renamed Creator Pass ($9.99/month or $69.99/year) and now bundles the paid features. The base app is still a one-time purchase and add-ons can still be bought outright, but the stock library is only available by subscription.
Android and ChromeOS lack Multicam Studio, Adjustment Clips, AUv3 audio plug-ins, some transitions and effects, and projects with more than 6 video/audio tracks, so iOS projects using them won't open. The Android app is also a separate $29.99 purchase; an iOS license doesn't transfer.
The current App Store build requires iOS/iPadOS 27 (and macOS 26 on an M1 or newer Mac), so older iPads can't get recent fixes. Several reviewers also say big updates introduce new bugs, such as overlapping buttons in Size and Position or preview freezes.
Luma Touch removed Google Drive as a built-in import/export source. iOS users now go through the Google Drive app in Files; Android users were told a more convenient solution was still being worked on. Release 5.5.2 also fixed repeated Dropbox and Frame.io login prompts.
What Users Love

Reviewers consistently call it the most capable mobile editor: multiple video and audio tracks, keyframing, audio tools, LUTs and color scopes, while still being easy to learn.
One-time purchase for the core app
The editor itself is $29.99 once with no required subscription, and add-ons can be bought outright instead of through Creator Pass.
Responsive support and strong documentation
Most reviewers praise support replies, the reference guide and tutorials; the developer answers App Store reviews and keeps a public known-issues list.
Fast exports on modern iPads
Users report smooth exports from 720p up to high-bitrate 4K on iPad Pro and recent iPhones.
FCPXML export to Final Cut Pro
With the FCPXML add-on you can start an edit on iPad and finish it in Final Cut Pro on a Mac, a workflow comparison articles single out.

Who Should Use This?
Good Fit
iPad YouTubers and vloggers
Full multitrack editing on iPad for a one-time price, with fast 4K exports on modern iPads.
Mobile journalists
Built for editing in the field on iPad or iPhone with pro audio and title tools.
Editors finishing in Final Cut Pro
FCPXML export lets you rough-cut on iPad and finish on a Mac, if you pay for the add-on.
People who hate subscriptions
The core app and every add-on except stock media can be bought outright.
Neutral
Android and Chromebook users
Works and is improving, but lacks multicam, adjustment clips and plug-ins, and costs a separate purchase.
Editors working from external drives
Editing directly from USB drives is slow or unstable for many; you'll need spare internal storage.
Avoid
Owners of older iPads
Latest versions need iPadOS 27, and heavy 4K or action-cam footage lags on weaker hardware.
Casual TikTok/Reels creators
Free editors like CapCut offer templates and effects faster; LumaFusion's depth is overkill for short clips.
Regret Patterns
Common buyer's remorse scenarios reported by users.
Users delete and reinstall to fix a bug and find every project gone, because projects live only inside the app.
Buyers expect multicam, speed ramps or FCPXML to be included and discover each is a $19.99 add-on.
A long or speed-ramped project refuses to export and the user has to buy other software to finish it.
Imported media fills the device, which then triggers failed exports, hidden projects and 'not enough space' warnings.
Moving from iPad to an Android tablet or Chromebook requires a new purchase, and iOS projects using multicam or more than 6 tracks won't open.
Some users report new bugs after major updates, such as preview freezing or layout glitches, and older iPads can't update at all.
When It Breaks Down
Scenarios where this product tends to fail users.
Projects with speed changes are a known cause of export errors; Luma Touch's fix involves toggling audio pre-rendering and alternate speed ramp timing.
iOS can struggle to decode this footage, causing import failures and choppy playback until media is optimized or transcoded.
USB drives can be too slow or disconnect mid-edit, leading to lag and missing media.
Exports fail and projects can disappear from the Project Manager until space is freed and the device restarted.
Projects with Multicam, Adjustment Clips, AUv3 plug-ins or more than 6 tracks cannot be opened on Android/ChromeOS.
Many AUv3 plug-in instances (for example FabFilter) have caused shaky playback and crashes on export and transitions.
Alternatives Users Switch To
Final Cut Pro
8x mentionedApple's own editor on iPad and Mac; arguably easier to learn with pro features, but it's a subscription on iPad and the iPad-to-Mac workflow is one-way.
DaVinci Resolve
7x mentionedFree iPad version built from the desktop codebase with industry-leading color grading; heavier and more complex than LumaFusion.
CapCut
7x mentionedFree and beginner-friendly with templates and auto captions; better for short social clips, weaker for long multitrack edits.
VN Video Editor
5x mentionedFree multitrack editor on iOS and Android with no watermark; a cheaper option if you don't need LumaFusion's pro audio and export control.
KineMaster
4x mentionedLayer-based mobile editor popular on Android; more assets and effects, but subscription-based and watermarked when free.
PowerDirector
3x mentionedFeature-rich Android/iOS editor with AI tools; an option for Android users who miss LumaFusion's iOS-only features, but subscription-based.
