LumaFusion Keeps Crashing

Workaround available iPad, iPhone, Mac Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

Most LumaFusion crashes are fixed by updating the app (several crash fixes shipped in 2026), restarting the device, freeing storage and removing heavy third-party audio plug-ins. Don't delete the app: that erases your projects.

Most likely fix: Update LumaFusion and iOS.

Symptoms

The app closes on launch, when opening a project, importing from Photos, trimming clips, reversing short clips or adding transitions.

Why it happens

  • Bugs fixed in newer versions (trimming/library preview crash in 5.5.1, reversing short clips in 5.5.2)
  • Titles with underlined text (known issue)
  • Many AUv3 audio plug-in instances such as FabFilter
  • Low storage or memory with large 4K projects

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Update LumaFusion and iOS

    1. Install the latest LumaFusion from the App Store
    2. Update iPadOS/iOS to the version the app requires
  2. 2. Restart and free memory

    1. Force close all apps
    2. Restart the device
    3. Free storage if the device is nearly full
  3. 3. Remove underlined text from titles

    1. Edit any titles using underline styling
    2. Remove the underline and test playback
  4. 4. Reduce third-party audio plug-ins

    1. Remove AUv3 plug-in instances from the project one by one
    2. Re-test; users stopped crashes by removing enough FabFilter instances
  5. 5. Contact support, don't reinstall

    1. Back up projects as Project Packages first
    2. Contact Luma Touch support with version, OS and device model
