LumaFusion Can't Import Video (Unsupported Format)

Workaround available iPad, iPhone, Android Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

LumaFusion on iOS can't import WMV, AVI, MKV, FLV, AV1, DivX, VP9, ProRes RAW or interlaced video. Convert the file to H.264 MP4 with HandBrake using Luma Touch's recommended settings.

Most likely fix: Convert with HandBrake.

Symptoms

A file won't import, shows black in preview, or a message says the clip isn't compatible.

Why it happens

  • Container or codec not supported on iOS (MKV, AVI, WMV, FLV, AV1, VP9, DivX)
  • Interlaced video or ProRes RAW
  • ProRes on a device without ProRes support
  • Android: file type not supported by the device's own video player

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Convert with HandBrake

    1. Format: MP4; Video Encoder: H.264 (x264)
    2. Constant Quality RF 22; Frame Rate: same as source, constant
    3. Preset Medium, Tune None, Profile Main or High, Level 3.1
    4. Additional Options: keyint=60 (about 2x the frame rate)
  2. 2. Check device ProRes support

    1. ProRes needs iPad Pro 3rd gen/11-inch 1st gen or later, iPad Air 5, iPad mini 6, iPhone 13 or later, or an Apple silicon Mac
  3. 3. Android: Optimize and Consolidate

    1. Add the clip to the timeline
    2. Run Optimize and Consolidate so it's converted to a compatible format
