PowerDirector Not Working? Common Errors & Fixes

When PowerDirector can't produce a video it's usually the encoder, an outdated graphics driver or a frame/bit-rate mismatch. Update PowerDirector and your GPU driver, then switch between Hardware and Software Encoding under Export > Advanced and export as H.264 MP4.

Most PowerDirector crashes come from outdated graphics drivers, shadow file generation, high preview quality or conflicting software. Update drivers, turn off shadow files in Preferences > Performance and set Timeline Preview Quality to HD.

Timeline preview lags when the PC can't decode 4K or effects in real time. Lower Preview Quality, use Render Preview, or enable shadow files for 2K/4K clips; the final export is unaffected.

You're still running the free Essential edition. Subscribers should sign in to Essential with the purchase email so it upgrades; perpetual buyers must install the paid version from the purchase email. Then produce the video again.

PowerDirector adds a visible watermark to generative AI output (Text to Image, Image to Video, AI Replace, AI Extend). You can turn it off in Preferences > General after accepting the AI content notice, but only for new generations.

On phones, exports usually fail from low storage, leaving the app mid-export, a clip the phone can't decode, or 4K that the device's encoder doesn't support. Free space, stay in the app, export 1080p and replace problem clips.

PowerDirector mobile links to clips in your phone gallery instead of copying them. If a source clip is deleted, moved or offloaded, the clip turns red with a missing media error. Keep originals on the phone until you export.

Activation fails when the key has hit its activation limit, the activation server can't be reached, or the installed build doesn't match your license. Check the key in Member Zone, reinstall the right edition and contact CyberLink if the key is maxed out.

PowerDirector can't open projects saved in a newer version, Essential projects usually won't open in the perpetual edition, and projects using removed features may break. Back up the .pds file and open it in the latest version.

CyberLink removed several tools in 2025-2026: Boris FX plugins, AI Sky Replacement, Magic Movie Wizard, Theme/Particle Designer, AI Style Plugin, Paint/Shape/Sketch Designers and AI Copilot. Downloaded content packs were also moved into new categories.

PDHanumanSvr.exe is PowerDirector's background helper that builds shadow files and audio waveforms. CyberLink's fix is to disable shadow file generation in Preferences > Performance.

If CyberLink Application Manager loops forever while updating, uninstall it, download the latest installer from CyberLink and reinstall, then update PowerDirector again.

Cancel where you bought it: CyberLink Member Zone (Plans & Products > Manage Plan > Cancel Subscription), Google Play (Menu > Subscriptions) or Apple subscriptions. Do it at least 24 hours before renewal.

CyberLink refunds website purchases within 30 days via Member Zone > My Order > Request a Refund, but using any AI credit in the order makes it non-refundable. App Store purchases go through Apple; Google Play within 48 hours through Google.
