PowerDirector Export Failed (Produce Error)
Workaround available Windows, Mac Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
When PowerDirector can't produce a video it's usually the encoder, an outdated graphics driver or a frame/bit-rate mismatch. Update PowerDirector and your GPU driver, then switch between Hardware and Software Encoding under Export > Advanced and export as H.264 MP4.
Most likely fix: Update PowerDirector.
Symptoms
Producing stops partway, shows a generic error, freezes or closes PowerDirector. The output may stutter, be black or have no audio. Often only one format or custom profile fails.
Why it happens
- Outdated PowerDirector build
- Outdated NVIDIA, AMD or Intel graphics driver
- Hardware (or software) encoding failing on your system
- Frame rate or bit rate not matching the source footage
- Corrupted custom output profile
- Specific clips in the project that the encoder can't handle
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Update PowerDirector
- Install the latest build from CyberLink's software updates page or Application Manager
- Restart the PC and produce again
2. Update your graphics driver
- Download the latest driver from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel for your exact GPU model
- Restart and try the export again
3. Switch the encoding mode
- On the Export page click Advanced
- If it fails with Software Encoding select Hardware Encoding, and vice versa
- Produce again
4. Match frame rate and bit rate to the source
- Check the source clip's frame rate (e.g. with MediaInfo)
- On the Export page set the same Frame Rate and a bit rate no lower than the source
5. Export as H.264 MP4 with a default profile
- If H.265 or MPEG-2 fails, choose H.264 MP4
- Delete custom profiles and recreate them, or use the built-in templates
6. Find the problem clip
- Produce a short range of the timeline to see where it fails
- Replace or re-encode the clip at that point
7. Send a packed project to support
- File > Pack Project Materials into an empty folder
- Zip it with DxDiag.txt and a screenshot of the Export page
- Send to CyberLink Technical Support
