Snapseed Unable to Open Photos

Workaround available iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

When Snapseed can't open or see your photos, it is almost always a permission problem on iOS or a storage app Snapseed can't read on Android. Grant full photo access, or save the photo to internal storage first.

Most likely fix: Allow full photo access.

Symptoms

Tapping Open does nothing, Snapseed says it doesn't have access to your photos or videos, only some photos appear, or photos in a cloud/storage app can't be selected.

Why it happens

  • Photo access denied or set to limited
  • iOS Screen Time content restrictions blocking Photos changes
  • On Android, the storage app isn't offered in Snapseed's Open menu
  • A work profile or admin-managed device limiting gallery access
  • Photo only exists in the cloud and hasn't downloaded

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Allow full photo access

    1. iPhone: Settings > Snapseed > Photos > Full Access
    2. Android: Settings > Apps > Snapseed > Permissions > Photos and videos > Allow all
  2. 2. Check Screen Time restrictions (iOS)

    1. Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Photos
    2. Choose Allow Changes and make sure Snapseed is enabled
  3. 3. Save the photo to the device first (Android)

    1. Open the photo in its storage or cloud app (Drive, Dropbox, etc.)
    2. Download/save it to internal storage
    3. Return to Snapseed and open it from the device
  4. 4. Check for a work profile

    1. If Snapseed warns it can't access all photos on a managed phone, open it from the same profile that holds the photos or ask your admin
