Snapseed Healing Tool Not Working
Workaround available iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
When Healing does nothing or leaves smudges, the area is usually too large or the app is struggling with memory. Zoom in, heal small spots one at a time, and restart or update Snapseed if the brush stops responding.
Most likely fix: Zoom in and heal small spots.
Symptoms
Brushing over a blemish or object has no effect, leaves a blurry smear or repeated texture, or the brush stops responding partway through.
Why it happens
- Painting over a large area in one stroke, so the tool samples the wrong texture
- Object sits on a complex background with no clean area nearby
- App low on memory with a large or RAW photo
- Outdated app version
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Zoom in and heal small spots
- Pinch to zoom in on the spot
- Brush over one small blemish at a time instead of the whole area
- Repeat in short strokes, undoing any stroke that smears
2. Use a different tool for large objects
- For big objects try the 4.x masking tools or crop
- Heal only the remaining small edges
3. Restart and update if the brush freezes
- Export or save your work
- Force close Snapseed, restart the phone, update the app, and reopen the photo
