VN 'Please Reduce the Export Resolution' Error
Workaround available iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
VN shows 'Please reduce the export resolution' when the phone can't encode the chosen resolution. Pick 1080p or 720p in Manual export, or use Auto, and restart the app if it still appears.
Most likely fix: Choose a lower resolution.
Symptoms
Tapping Export shows a message asking you to reduce the export resolution; for some users it repeats even at lower settings.
Why it happens
- Chosen resolution (2.7K/4K) or FPS higher than the phone's encoder supports
- Mixed clip sizes or HDR clips pushing the project resolution up
- Temporary memory issue in the app
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Choose a lower resolution
- Tap Export, then Manual
- Set resolution to 1080p (or 720p on older phones)
- Match FPS to your source clips
2. Use Auto export
- Switch Export to Auto so VN picks resolution, FPS and bitrate from your clips
3. Turn HDR off
- If your clips aren't HDR, turn off the HDR switch in export settings
4. Clear the app from memory and retry
- Close VN from the app switcher
- Restart the phone, reopen the project and export again
