Webex Virtual Background Not Working

Symptoms

The background option is missing or greyed out, the background doesn't apply, or your body disappears into the background.

Why it happens

• Virtual backgrounds disabled by the site administrator
• Computer or OS doesn't meet Webex requirements
• Linux client lacks the feature
• Camera shutter closed or poor lighting

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

1. 1. Find the setting

   1. Before joining, open the video preview
   2. Click Change background below the preview
   3. If it's not there, the feature may be restricted

2. 2. Ask your admin to enable it

   1. Virtual backgrounds must be enabled for your Webex site
   2. Ask the site admin which backgrounds are allowed

3. 3. Check system requirements

   1. Compare your CPU and OS with the Webex virtual background requirements
   2. Update Webex to the latest version

4. 4. Reset the background

   1. Set the background to None
   2. Re-select your background
   3. Open the camera shutter and improve lighting
