Box 'Shared Link Has Been Removed or Is Unavailable'
Workaround available Web, iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
This message usually means you're signed into the wrong Box account, the link only allows people in the company or folder, or the owner removed the link or their account was deactivated. Sign in with the account the file was shared to, or ask the owner for a new link.
Most likely fix: Sign in with the right account.
Symptoms
Opening a Box link shows 'This shared file or folder link has been removed or is unavailable to you', even though it works for the sender.
Why it happens
- Link access is set to 'people in this company' or 'people in this folder'
- You're signed into a personal Box account instead of the invited one
- The owner deleted the link or changed its settings
- The owner's account was deleted or made inactive
- Admin sharing restrictions in the owner's enterprise
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Sign in with the right account
- Log out of Box
- Sign back in with the email address the file was shared to
2. Ask the owner to check link access
- The owner opens the item's share settings and sets link access to 'People with the link' (if their admin allows it)
- Or invites you as a collaborator on the folder
3. Request a fresh link
- If the link was removed or the owner left the company, ask someone with access to share it again
4. Rule out the browser
- Open the link in a private window or another browser with extensions and VPN off
5. Ask the owner's Box admin
- If nothing works, the owner's admin can check account status and sharing policies
