LastPass Export Not Working (Blank CSV)

Workaround available Chrome, Edge, Firefox (web vault and extension) Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

Exporting from the web vault often produces an empty file. Export from the browser extension instead (Account > Fix a problem yourself > Export vault items), or try a different browser.

Most likely fix: Export from the extension.

Symptoms

The exported CSV is 0 KB or has only headers, nothing happens when you click Export, or the importing password manager says the file is empty or in the wrong format.

Why it happens

  • Web vault export path is unreliable
  • Browser blocking the download or pop-up
  • Instructions written for the old interface
  • Form-fill data requires a separate export

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Export from the extension

    1. Click the LastPass extension icon > Account options (or Account)
    2. Choose Fix a problem yourself > Export vault items > Export data for use anywhere
    3. Re-enter your master password and save the CSV
  2. 2. Try a different browser

    1. Install the LastPass extension in another browser (e.g. Firefox or Edge)
    2. Repeat the export there
  3. 3. Check the file before importing

    1. Open the CSV in a spreadsheet app to confirm it has rows
    2. If entries are missing, export form-fill items separately
  4. 4. Delete the CSV afterwards

    1. Once imported into your new manager, permanently delete the CSV and empty the trash; it contains all passwords in plain text
