Overview
Keeper (Keeper Security) is a zero-knowledge, AES-256 encrypted password manager with apps for every major browser, desktop and mobile platform, plus a large business line with admin console, SSO/SCIM provisioning and privileged access management. It is popular with businesses, but consumers complain that the base plan leaves out dark web monitoring and file storage (paid add-ons), that autofill is inconsistent on some sites, that the extension logs them out too often, and that auto-renewal and support are frustrating.
Keeper Not Working? Common Errors & Fixes
Step-by-step fixes for the errors users hit most.
Keeper Autofill Not Working
Keeper usually fails to autofill because the record has no matching website address, the browser's built-in password manager is interfering, or the site uses a non-standard login form. Add the URL to the record, disable the browser's password manager, and report the page with Keeper's Snapshot tool.
Keeper Keeps Logging Me Out
By default Keeper logs you out whenever the browser closes or the computer restarts. Turn on Stay Logged In and set a longer Inactivity Logout Timer in Settings > Security, in both the extension and the Web Vault.
Keeper Autofill Not Working on iPhone
On iPhone, Keeper only fills if it is enabled as an AutoFill provider in iOS settings. On iOS 18 use Keeper Settings > Enable KeeperFill; on older iOS select Keeper under Settings > Passwords > Password Options and untick iCloud Keychain.
Keeper Autofill Not Working on Android
Keeper must be the preferred autofill service on Android, not an 'additional' service. Re-select Keeper as the preferred service for passwords, passkeys and autofill, toggle KeeperFill off and on, and tap into the field to trigger suggestions.
Forgot Keeper Master Password
Use Need Help > Forgot Master Password with your 24-word recovery phrase, or reset it from a phone or computer where you can still log in with biometrics. Without either, Keeper cannot recover your vault.
Keeper Browser Extension Not Working
If the Keeper extension won't open, shows an error after an update, or behaves strangely, re-accept its permissions, clear its storage from Extension options, and reinstall it if needed.
Keeper Desktop App Not Working
When the Keeper Desktop app freezes, won't load the vault or behaves oddly, use Help > Reset Keeper. Mac App Store installs may also need the app's Application Support folder removed.
Keeper Offline Mode Not Working
Offline access is off by default and must be enabled in Settings > Security, and the device must log in online once so it holds a local copy. It isn't available on Keeper Free and admins can disable it.
Keeper Passkeys Not Showing
Passkeys only appear when Keeper is the device's passkey provider. On iPhone enable 'AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys' and select Keeper (untick iCloud Keychain); on Android 14+ re-select Keeper as the preferred service, especially after OS updates.
Keeper Face ID Not Working
Face ID must be set up in iOS first, then enabled under Keeper's Settings > Biometric Login. If you declined the first prompt, re-enable it in iOS Settings > Keeper > Face ID.
How to Cancel Keeper Subscription
Cancel where you paid: App Store and Google Play subscriptions are cancelled in your phone's subscription settings; web purchases from the vault's subscription settings or through Keeper support. Do it before the renewal date and keep written confirmation.
Keeper Export Passwords Not Working
Export from the Web Vault or Desktop App via Settings > Export (CSV, JSON, PDF or encrypted KeePass). Export is documented for the Web Vault and Desktop App, and business users need a role policy that allows it.
Signals & Issues
Patterns extracted from real user feedback — not raw reviews.
Keeper Unlimited lists at $42.99/year and Family at $91.99/year, yet BreachWatch dark web monitoring is a separate $26.99/year ($53.99 for Family) and file storage starts at $13.99/year for 10 GB on the personal plan. Reviewers point out most competitors include breach monitoring in their premium tier.
Several Trustpilot reviewers describe renewals they didn't expect, unclear opt-out from subscriptions and having to dispute charges with their card issuer. Business plans are cancelled by email rather than a self-service button, according to cancellation guides.
Keeper Free only stores 10 records on a single mobile device and has no offline access, so it's effectively a trial. Bitwarden and Proton Pass offer unlimited passwords on unlimited devices for free.
Recent negative Trustpilot reviews describe consumer support as slow, scripted or automated, and Firefox add-on reviewers say support's answer to extension bugs was to reinstall or reset the browser. Live chat support is limited to paying customers.
A minority of Trustpilot reviewers report an older iPhone app silently stopping sync, and records vanishing while still logged in. Reports are isolated but severe because they involve lost passwords.
The most repeated functional complaint across Capterra, Trustpilot, Gartner and browser forums: KeeperFill doesn't recognize the login page, stops filling the username field, or needs a browser reload before it works. Keeper's own Android docs admit banking apps and complex login flows may need a manual fill.
By default Keeper logs you out whenever the browser closes or the computer restarts. Users report being forced to sign in every few days, and some say the Stay Logged In setting still logs them out almost daily.
G2 and Trustpilot reviewers say Keeper turned out more complex than expected for a first password manager, and that the browser extension needs too many clicks. Switching between personal and business vaults requires re-entering the master password.
Mobile autofill depends on OS settings (Keeper must replace iCloud Keychain or be the preferred Android autofill service) and often needs extra taps. Reddit switchers and Keeper's own troubleshooting docs both mention autofill that doesn't appear or fills the wrong field.
Keeper is zero-knowledge: without the master password or the 24-word recovery phrase, support cannot restore your vault and consumer users must create a new account. This is good security design but catches users who skipped recovery setup.
Capterra reviewers mention SMS two-factor codes not arriving when signing in, which blocks access to the vault on a new device. Keeper's docs note the 2FA prompt can appear a few seconds after login because the vault decrypts locally first.
Keeper exports to CSV, JSON, PDF and encrypted KeePass, but reviewers complain some fields are left out of exports and one 1Password user reported a Keeper import that brought in zero records. An expired subscription can also complicate getting your export.
What Users Love
Zero-knowledge encryption with strong certifications
AES-256 plus elliptic-curve encryption, zero-knowledge architecture, SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 certifications, and an optional self-destruct after five failed logins.
Excellent business and enterprise admin features
Admin console, shared team folders, delegated administration, SSO/SAML, SCIM and AD provisioning, role-based policies and add-ons for compliance reporting, secrets management and privileged access (KeeperPAM).
Works on every platform with reliable sync for most users
Browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and Opera, desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux, and iOS/Android apps. Many reviewers praise easy setup and stable multi-device sync.
Offline access to your vault
Paid plans can keep an encrypted local copy of the vault and create or edit records with no connection on the web vault, desktop and mobile apps.
Passkeys, 2FA codes and custom fields built in
Keeper stores passkeys and TOTP codes, fills custom fields, and the Family plan includes 10 GB of encrypted file storage for five users.
Fast site-specific autofill fixes via the Snapshot tool
Since extension version 17.1 users can send a snapshot of a broken login page from the extension; Keeper says many site fixes ship the same day.

Who Should Use This?
Good Fit
Businesses needing admin controls and compliance
Admin console, role policies, SSO/SCIM, compliance reporting and PAM add-ons make Keeper one of the strongest business options, and every Business user gets a free Family plan.
Security-focused users
Zero-knowledge encryption, SOC 2 / ISO 27001 certifications, self-destruct and offline access.
Neutral
Families
Five private vaults and 10 GB storage for $91.99/year is reasonable, but breach monitoring costs another $53.99.
First-time password manager users
Setup is easy, but some reviewers found the app more complex than expected and the extension click-heavy.
Heavy mobile autofill users
Autofill works once OS settings are right, but users report extra taps and sites where it doesn't fill.
Avoid
Budget-conscious individuals
The free plan is 10 records on one device and Unlimited plus BreachWatch costs about $70/year; Bitwarden and Proton Pass are far cheaper.
Open-source advocates
Keeper is closed source; Bitwarden or KeePassXC suit you better.
Regret Patterns
Common buyer's remorse scenarios reported by users.
Users discover after buying Unlimited that breach monitoring and file storage are separate add-ons, pushing the yearly cost toward $70 or more.
Users who thought they had cancelled, or never noticed auto-renewal, get charged for another year and end up disputing it with their bank.
The extension logs out on every browser restart until Stay Logged In is found, and some users still get logged out often after enabling it.
Bank and multi-step login pages don't fill, so users fall back to copy-paste and question what they're paying for.
Users leaving Keeper report missing fields in exports and imports into other managers that fail or need manual cleanup.
When It Breaks Down
Scenarios where this product tends to fail users.
Non-standard or split username/password forms confuse KeeperFill and need manual fill or a reported snapshot.
Chrome/Edge/Safari's own password manager competes with Keeper and causes missing or duplicate fill prompts.
If SMS codes don't arrive or the 2FA device is lost, you can't finish signing in on a new device.
Zero-knowledge design means the vault can't be recovered; consumer users must start a new account.
Admins can disable Stay Logged In, offline access, export and KeeperAI autofill, which looks like a bug to end users.
Web Vault offline mode only works when the vault login page is loaded directly and the device was primed online first.
