Forgot Keeper Master Password

Quick answer

Use Need Help > Forgot Master Password with your 24-word recovery phrase, or reset it from a phone or computer where you can still log in with biometrics. Without either, Keeper cannot recover your vault.

Symptoms

You can't log in with your master password, or you're locked out after too many failed attempts.

Why it happens

  • Forgotten or mistyped master password
  • Too many failed attempts triggered login throttling
  • Recovery phrase never set up or lost

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Recover with your recovery phrase

    1. On the Web Vault or Desktop App login screen click Need Help > Forgot Master Password
    2. Enter your 24-word recovery phrase
    3. Create a new master password

  2. 2. Reset from a device with biometric login

    1. Log in on a phone or computer with Face ID, Touch ID or Windows Hello
    2. Go to Settings > Reset Master Password
    3. Authenticate with biometrics and set a new master password

  3. 3. Ask support to reset throttling

    1. If you exceeded the number of failed attempts, open a support ticket with Keeper
    2. Support can reset the throttle so you can try again

  4. 4. Business users: contact your admin

    1. If your company uses SSO, there may be no master password
    2. Contact your Keeper administrator for account recovery

  5. 5. Prevent it happening again

    1. Once in, go to Settings > Recovery Phrase and generate a new phrase
    2. Store the phrase and master password somewhere safe offline
