Keeper Desktop App Not Working

Workaround available Windows, macOS, Linux Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

When the Keeper Desktop app freezes, won't load the vault or behaves oddly, use Help > Reset Keeper. Mac App Store installs may also need the app's Application Support folder removed.

Most likely fix: Reset Keeper from the Help menu.

Symptoms

Keeper Desktop opens to a blank window, hangs at login, shows stale data or crashes on Windows or macOS.

Why it happens

  • Corrupted local app data
  • Leftover data from a previous Mac App Store install
  • Outdated app version

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Reset Keeper from the Help menu

    1. In Keeper Desktop, open Help > Reset Keeper
    2. Confirm, then log in again (your vault is restored from the cloud)
  2. 2. Remove leftover data (Mac App Store version)

    1. Quit Keeper
    2. Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities)
    3. Run: rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Keeper\ Password\ Manager/
    4. Reopen Keeper and log in
  3. 3. Reinstall the current version

    1. Uninstall Keeper Desktop
    2. Install the latest version from Keeper's download page or the Microsoft Store
